The proportion of the day remembered versus the day spent is nearly insignificant. Every single day is 24 hours long but we remember a fraction of that. Writing this reminded me of a few thoughts I had earlier about a commercial I saw the other day. It was advertising some sort of self help program. Something about dividing the day into thirds. A third of the day is spent sleeping, a third is spent working, and the final third is where at least six different activities were crammed in.
Of those six activities I remember health and family being two of them, but let’s break down their breakdown of the day first. Sure we spend around eight hours sleeping and should spend eight hours working. That’s fine, but we can’t teleport, and even if we work from home we do have to be presentable for online meetings and have some basic preparation that goes into the day. So let’s subtract two of the hours from the extra eight hours where the six things are crammed into.
At this point I wish I remembered what those other four parts of the six parts of the one third of the day were, because we’ve got six hours left. Six hours for family, health, fun, food, and whatever else goes into the day. Again teleportation would be helpful because getting to a gym or restaurant or grocery store takes time. Eating is an important part of the day. It is essential to remaining alive.
I might just look up this method of living after I am done writing this, because I am going to tell you that six hours for family, fun, health, and food doesn’t seem like enough. I can’t imagine any family being happy being told they get one hour of your time because you need one hour for self improvement, entertainment, eating, and whatever else is part of this theory.
There are a lot of these self help day planner type things in existence. Did you know successful people all do this one thing that ever doctor hates? Cocaine. It’s cocaine. I don’t know that but I bet it’s true.
