Today I am grateful for pizza. It sounds odd to say and it is just pizza. Plus I am writing about it on Mother’s Day. Shouldn’t my first thought have been about my wife and mother to my children? Instead I am looking forward to finishing this and eating some of the leftover pizza in my fridge for breakfast.
Now to the benefits of a diverse community and what it has to do with pizza. There are a lot of different types of pizza and people sure love to argue about which is best. I do not. I love them all equally and I am happy to live in a community that gives me so many options for pizza.
Last night for dinner we had Jets pizza. If you are unfamiliar with Jets it is a Detroit pizza chain that serves Detroit style pizza. If the overall pizza community could expand their horizons beyond Chicago and New York there would be a different top dog in the pizza world.
Detroit style pizza is rectangular with thick crust, but the best part is that thick crust is coated in butter and caramelized during the cooking process creating a unique and amazing flavor. It really is hard to beat the taste of bread, cheese, butter, and garlic. Sometimes making good food really is that simple.
I enjoy living in a community that has a Jets. Even if it is on the other side of the city. That is the blessing and curse of living in a diverse community. I can get Chicago, New York, Detroit, Ohio, Virginia, Rome, and Neapolitan style pizza but occasionally I am going to have to drive for it.
Living near the country’s largest naval base does come with benefits. People move here from all over the country and the world and they open restaurants to serve food like mama did back home, and sometimes it is as simple as opening a franchise of a pizza chain from back home. I appreciate them for that, and thank them for their service.
