This is another one of those mornings where there is nothing much on my mind. A few more big bills have trickled in. The lawn care company finally sent us a bill. It is less than I thought. After all the complaining about how expensive they are from my family the bill wasn’t that much. The issue is they waited six months to send us a bill instead of billing monthly or using an online platform to bill.
I’ve always told people that one of the reasons our pet sitting and dog walking business was successful is we set it up like a regular business, and you won’t know what that means unless you are in a niche business category, and at this hour of the morning I find it hard to explain.
What I did was answer a series of question. What does a business need to be successful? The answer is strong infrastructure. Then the question became what is the infrastructure of a good business? Finding leads, servicing those that choose to become clients, billing, payroll, and so forth. Whenever I needed a new service for my business I didn’t look for ones that specialized in the industry. I looked for the ones the top businesses used.
Some people, in multiple niche industries, still don’t take credit cards. Like our lawn care guy. He’s been in business for a long time and doesn’t even have a credit card processor. If he increased his billing efficiencies his customers would be extremely happy.
That is one important lesson that I have learned. Never stand between yourself and getting paid. The other week I went on a tirade trying to figure out how my business could take some of these new pay over time services like Affirm. I even told people these companies were going to challenge the current credit card model, and guess what? I was right. I noticed on my Chase bill I can set certain purchases to pay over time. The credit card companies have already responded and it is to the consumer’s benefit.
At this point in our timeline it feels weird when Capitalism works the way it is supposed to. Most of the time it works more for the benefit of the corporations and screws the customers or becomes just like Communism where if you don’t have an iPhone you aren’t serviced because that is the state approved phone.
Anyway that is enough of this mindless tangent for this morning. Tomorrow is vacation. Where we hit to road and blast the Go-Go’s.
