Awakening to the Sky: Reflections on a New Day

I can see a sliver of the sky out this window. Not much of it at all. First I am looking between the posts of a cat tree. Then out a small window pain in the backdoor. And finally between the branches of a tree, but from here I can see a small sliver of the sky.

It is hard to tell if it is blue or gray. It is one color or the other, and I am certain if I named it and another person were about they would argue with me whether I named it blue or gray, and if I said it could be either they would be equally upset.

It is a small sliver of the dawn sky. Beginning to brighten as the day awakens. The night has ended and we have reached another day. We should be thankful for every day we get, and for every sliver of sky we get to see. Even if we cannot tell if it is blue, gray, silver, or some other color in between.

There are only so many colors the sky can be and my small sliver of it I can see out of the den window has to be one of them. At this moment it has brightened further and has a white glow about it. I am starting to think it is going to be a cloudy day, but I could be wrong entirely and it is the early down hue of the lightest blue.

It is good to be awake in the morning as the world unfurls around you. That is something I need to do. To get out among the trees or by the sea and watch the world come awake. Those are the best moments to be a part of. It is in those moments that we feel life, and feel like we are part of something. Not staring out a small window at a small sliver of sky trying to deduce whether it is blue or gray.

The sun has risen further and it looks a bit more blue now. Perhaps today will be a clear day after all. In this year of great technology I could open the weather app on my phone or ask one of the half dozen Alexa devises we have around the house. They would have the answer and settle the debate of whether the sky is blue or gray.

There is a sliver of sky out my window and I will commune with it to discover its true nature, and in doing so discover what sort of day lay ahead.
