At some point over the last couple years my sinuses drained into my ears and I couldn’t hear for two weeks. When I went to the doctor they informed me this is just something that happens at your age.
Last night when we were driving home from the kids self defense class I felt my ears pop or semi pop. They didn’t fully pop and I couldn’t hear out of the left one, and then I noticed my nose was clear. My sinuses had once again drained into my ears.
I was a combination of angry, sad, and depressed. The last time this had happened I had been without hearing for two weeks. I didn’t want that again. I have been dealing with this ever evolving illness for a month already and didn’t want the final stage to be a lose of hearing.
One thing. Allergies that I used to have never become any type of infection. They were annoying more than anything. They were never something that would knock me on my ass with ever evolving symptoms, but I guess as you get older all this weird stuff happens.
So now I have an allergy infection that became a bacterial infection that became a sinus infection and is now draining through my ears. This is all grand fun and can be chalked up to something that happens at my age.
I don’t really want to live with losing my hearing every so often because my sinuses decide to drain through my ears when it is time to drain. I remember when I was younger and I would finally take the Claritin D and then go into a hot shower. Everything would drain right then and there. It was like magic and so clean and effective.
Now no amount of hot showers is causing that level of drainage and my ears are getting backed up. I am also walking around smelling burnt brownies which is either a symptom of a sinus infection of neurological disorder. As I have a sinus infection it is easy to pinpoint which one.
At this point I miss the simple stuffy nose of my youth. As much as I hated those allergies these are far worse and I do not appreciate having to deal with it. I don’t have time for this type of ordeal and I won’t be bothered with it. The rest of the world might have to repeat themselves several times but I will make do.
