Late Mornings

Today is a late start. By the time I am done writing this the morning will be in full swing. It never feels like we have enough time between getting up and getting the kids to the bus stop but on mornings like this the time is even shorter.

It isn’t bad to sleep in but it does cost me my morning time. I am the type of person that needs to ease into the morning. Get some time to relax and let the morning come to me. This morning won’t be like that. By the time I am done writing there will be thirty minutes until everyone has to be ready to go to the bus. That means we have to make sure the kids are dressed and fed and that isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Kids are weird. I may never understand the fight we have on a nearly daily basis in getting them dressed. They can open drawers and put on their own clothes and yet they choose not to. It is like them needing a map to the trashcan. I know they can throw things away but they choose not to. I do not understand it.

I may never understand my own children. What are their motivations? Why do they thing leaving trash where it lies is acceptable and how can they live like that? It confuses me. I like to have a neat organized room. They thrive in chaos.

Right now they are in the front room with the TV too loud. I bet if I look in they won’t be in any state to be ready for breakfast and as the morning unfolds they will realize it all too late. The bus alarm will go off and they won’t have eaten and will have to attempt to eat a bowl of cereal while walking to the bus stop.

Walking might be off the table this morning though. There was a storm that was supposed to blow through and while the rain part of it never materialized the wind has been present. Not enough to do known damage, but enough that it might have done something, and that might mean we should drive to the bus stop.

I missed walking to the bus stop in the summer. It isn’t a long walk, but it is a good one. It breaks up the day in a nice way and gives us something to do. It is also nice to see the boys off and wish them well with their day, and to give them a reminder to stay on task. They are that age though. They don’t like staying on task. They like to do what is fun.

It is that part of school that no one likes. The part of going along to get along, but I say this after complaining about them not getting dressed. They aren’t even mature enough to start their day with the simplest of tasks so why are we surprised when they can’t stay on more complex tasks.

Either way I am grateful for these little demons and love them completely.
