The Road Ahead

Today could be a fun day. It begins with hitting the road and travelling up the highway. Which will lead first to Sheetz hot mozzarella sticks and then eventually Woodbridge, Va where I will hangout with some friends I haven’t seen in a long time. It will be good and fun and full of excitement. I don’t know if it will be all that but it will be something.

It is good to have good friends. I somewhat brought them up in a business meeting this past week to show my ability to grow an audience. The fact that a podcast we did 12 years ago is still having an impact on my life. We built something and then I moved away and something quickly became nothing.

That is what is holding me back. Is my loss of passion. Business has become strictly business. It isn’t my passion anymore and I need to find that spark again. That is really it. I built an audience with my passion and intensity. I have always found that hard to bring into the pet industry, but it isn’t impossible. It isn’t impossible to have a great blog or a social media following. I just have to build it.

I’ve done it before and I can do it again. All that is to it is to do it. That is what it boils down to. Hit the ground hard with the Facebook live videos and the blog. Share good blog previews and get people to engage with it. That is what we need to do. The strategy to show people why we are a leader in the industry.

I actually felt something typing that last line. For too long my business has been simply the way I make, or don’t make, ends meet. It has been a difficult time since the kids were born, but last year we reached a leveling off point and while this year has been a step back it has been a step back into our second best year in business.

Nothing is at a point of being bad or dire or the end of the world. There is a path ahead and growing our audience and showing people that we are the local area expert in our field. I feel something when I say it and it has been a long time since I have felt anything when it comes to that business.
