Working the Way They Intended

It was all but set in stone that we were going up to visit my wife’s family the first weekend of December, and that was confirmed this morning when I decided to look at my AmEx rewards. I didn’t decide so much as look at our loan disclosures and ask myself how can we save more money when this is done.

AmEx has rewards for a number of the streaming platforms we use and it is good to get money back on what you are buying anyway. That was when I noticed there were rewards for both Best Western and Wyndham hotels. I clicked them both and proceeded to the Best Western website where I learned that hotel is booked for those dates. That eliminated I went to the Wyndham site and within minutes had booked our hotel room.

That task accomplished I moved on with my day and began the writing of this blog where I am now writing about writing about this blog. That was a terrible transition. The fact is this is exactly what Wyndham wanted. I wouldn’t be staying at that hotel otherwise. It isn’t that we don’t like it. We have stayed there a few times before. It just happens that it is within walking distance of nothing and means that if we want to head into town we are going to have to drive.

I was thinking of…I can’t finish that sentence. My wife reads these posts, and I have let her know too much of what I am thinking around holidays and special occasions before. The fact is I was looking at the AmEx website and saw a deal for a purchase we planned to make anyway and went ahead and made it because I would get cash back.

That is what they intend to happen and now we have a single night booked in a hotel six hours away for the first weekend of December. The best news is there is free cancellation up until the night before. So, if something comes up we aren’t obligated to anything.

I like it when the world works to my benefit. Which isn’t often and why something as silly as booking a hotel can make me happy. Now I just have to figure out how to feed the kids when we’re up there.
