Hibachi

It was a long awaited dream. My children, a flaming hot surface, and an elderly man with knives. That’s right we went to a Japanese Steak House last night for the family celebration of my daughter’s 5th birthday.

I also now know how my dad felt whenever he got one of those bills and it is a further understanding of my new role in the family. One I need to start embracing a little better.

Which brings us to this morning. Where I am apparently writing in short paragraphs.

Before coming to this site to write I went to look at the investment accounts and noticed that there was a large drop. Not in the stocks but from somewhere else, and I think it was the annuity. Since I took this over the annuity has been an annoyance, and losing $30,000 randomly, unexpectedly, and unexplained bothers me.

The issue is the annuity isn’t held by the same financial institution and that gives me limited ability to see what is going on, and I like knowing what is going on.

That is the good thing about the hibachi. You can see what is going on with your food. You can see and feel the flames. See every cut of the knife and sizzle of the steak. It isn’t just a meal. It is an experience.

I told my kids for months they would enjoy it, but they are not that open to knew experiences. So, we stopped asking and decided this was going to be how we celebrated my youngest’s birthday. At the end of the day I do think she had fun, and it was a good time with family.

We used to have times like that a lot more often, and maybe if I can figure out what to do with this annuity we can again.

That will be my order of business today. Figure out what can be done with the annuity. Get it out of where it is and into something better or at the least bring it under control of the same financial institution as the other money.

If there is one thing I like having it is control, and with the annuity I have no control.
