This is going to be a good week. The biggest issue is that the kids are off of school for three days, but that is a small issue as most of the country will be on holiday. This is typically a busy work week for us but that isn’t the case and I don’t know if it is because of the shrinking importance of Thanksgiving, the government shutdown, or some other reason.
Still, this is going to be a busy week. I am going to work on shoving the bank across the finish line and getting them everything else they need to finish off this loan. In all honesty I don’t know why they don’t just do it. The facts are clear, the numbers are clear, this is a good deal for them. Seriously, the bank stands to make $200,000 off of us over the life of the loan, they have the reports that tell them we don’t miss payments, the monthly payments on the loan save us close to $4,000 a month, and if they do have to foreclose the value of the home is five times that of the loan.
It is a little insane from a business perspective that the bank hasn’t closed the loan and are dilly dallying for dumb reasons. I get the idea of risk management, but this is a little intense. Twenty years ago the banks were handing out loans like candy and now they won’t even touch qualified borrowers. Meanwhile hedge funds are buying up every starter home on the market and renting it for more than a mortgage payment to the would be first time homebuyers.
This is the world we live in. One that is seemingly made for dishonest people. I keep getting warnings about title fraud on every email from the bank, and this process has made me wonder how it is possible. I can’t understand how it is possible when the banks are making me bend over forwards and backwards for this loan.
It is going to be a good week. We are finishing that loan today, and then we are going to have a great Thanksgiving dinner. I still love Thanksgiving even if not as many people are travelling for it anymore. This is a week where we are going to go 1-0 every day and by the end of it we will have won the week.
