Hopefully the Gifts Grow on People

I was really excited to see my families reaction to the gifts I got them and Windsor crying in the middle of the afternoon that he only got one toy says it all. The Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be a gift that we use through the years and is mostly for the kids, but it did mean that they got less toys than normal.

We could look back at the monster truck track we got them last year that they played with all Christmas day and have maybe touched two or three times since. Their rooms are a maze of toys scattered over the floors. It is terrible. Half the problem is the gift I should have given was furniture that provides a home for these toys. Our house is full of homeless and wayward objects. The Switch 2 might grow on them over the coming years but right now they would have rather had $500 worth of monster trucks than the Switch 2.

Then there is my wife. I thought I did really well with that gift but if she said two words to me after getting it I can’t recall. She has always said she wanted one of the ReMarkable tablets and with our refinance loan coming in I thought it was a good opportunity to get one. I told her not to worry about me and meant it. I would be happy if I got Cadbury Cream Eggs for every holiday. Yet she seemed upset about the gift.

You get one opportunity to show people love through gift giving and right now I feel like I disappointed everyone. My wife was also not feeling well last night so there was no unwrapping of the gift I really wanted.

It was an interesting Christmas. I don’t know if we had a good one but we did end it with some Chinese food. Which was great. I wouldn’t mind doing that every Christmas. Out of that came one of the biggest gifts I might have gotten. Windsor ate the sweet and sour chicken and told me it was the best chicken he’s ever had. I might have a Chinese food body after all. After all these years of depriving myself of one of life’s greatest joys Chinese food might be back on the menu.
