The Big Idea

My memory bank works as a bit of a filing cabinet. It files everything away. Most end up dropped into the subconscious layer and surface when I dream. This is why I woke up this morning to what felt like a big idea. I am not actually going to share it. Over the past years some of my good ideas have found their ways onto competitor’s websites or playbooks so I’m not going to say what the idea actually is, but it feels big and I feel ready.

Right now the idea is more motivational than actionable but it is also a lot closer and more real than any other three to five year plan I’ve had. First is we strengthen our structure here. We work on it, we build it, we prune it, and then, only then, does the big idea bloom.

This is an exciting time and an exciting moment. For the last three years I have felt creatively drained. Like my brain had shut off. It is active again. The thinking muscle is turning and thanks to modern technology I am no longer trying to water a garden with a firehose. Ideas are being filtered in a productive manner.

Things are in motion. Lots of things. Big and fun things. We are going to keep moving and keep growing and it is going to be exciting. I am ready to see where the next three to five years take us. Even with all the challenges we face.

It is going to be fun and the type of fun I haven’t had in a long time. I need to keep mindful to ground my feet every now and then so that I don’t start losing myself to the ideas and having ideas on top of ideas and never implementing the next one.

For now I have placed this idea. It now lives in the proper place and once I am ready to act on it it is going to be exciting to see what is next. I am sorry I can’t share it right now, but I have been burned before by the sharing of ideas. I don’t know if it is me but I do think there is a reason so many of my competitors use my language or what used to be my language on their website.

It might be simple pet industry speak and I was one of many instead of one of one like we’re morphing into, but I do think I did it better than anyone else. This year has been so much about infrastructure growth and we are going to keep it going. We are going to grow and go over the next few years. That is where we are the grow and go phase. No longer going to think about it as growth through stability. It is the grow and go phase. That is the power of one big idea.
