Yesterday was windy and cold. It also happened to be a 45 degree day sandwiched between a pair of 70 degree days. Making it the worst possible day for our Easter Event. On a nice day our set-up would have been nice, but instead we kind of stuck ourselves away from the other venders and didn’t see much activity. The weather was the main factor for this. It was unpleasant to be outside yesterday and we stood out there for five straight hours enduring it.
It wasn’t all a waste. We might have spent time, money, and effort setting up an event that was a dud for us but we did get all the promotion attention and show that we are active in the community. Even if the event itself wasn’t good it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do them. We can’t control the weather.
Outside of all that I did get to spend five uninterrupted hours alone with my wife. That was a good time, and Aslin brewing is quickly becoming one of our go to places. They do a lot of things well. They have good beer, good food, and a great atmosphere. Our event drew in a few extra people on a day that wasn’t good to begin with and I got to enjoy a lot of time with my wife.
It was probably one of our lowest turnouts for one of these events, but the New Realm event coordinator is distracted, disorganized, and a general pain in the ass to deal with. We still don’t know why they bumped our event or couldn’t communicate anything clearly, but they aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed over there anyway.
The people at Aslin are all nice people and it feels like a more intimate environment. It could be a great relationship moving forward. We just have to hope not to get anymore 45 degree days. Those don’t help with anything.
A few years back the city hosted a couple dog events and those were great for us. I think on Monday I need to put a call into Parks and Rec and see if they have anything on the horizon or if they would be interested in co-hosting a big summer event. At the very least it is worth a try. Either way yesterday’s event was a small bump that highlights bigger opportunity.
