The hardest thing to do is restart.
A body at rest and all that other
Newtonian logic turned metaphor.
Life is not a journey
when you’re constantly making wrong turns,
getting lost, turned around, following false landmarks.
The first step is meaningless
when it’s in the wrong direction.
Getting the muscles unwound from rest
is a challenge of a certain kind,
but be mindful of that first step
or there may not be a next.
This is why there are
compasses, paths, and maps.
It’s easier to go far when
you follow the footsteps.
The most important step in any journey
isn’t the first or the next. It’s all the steps
of plotting and planning, and
when you find yourself off track
take amount to rediscover your preferred path.
