A Father’s Wish

June 21, 2020, Father’s Day, is
the type of morning that reminds you
why early mornings and evenings
are the best parts of summer.
Standing outside, feeling the
promise of tortuous heat tempered
by the remains of nighttime’s chill,
I make a simple wish.
That I give you the best of me.
With all of my virtues and
none of my faults.
My guidance and influence
leading you to a better life than mine
as better men than me.
