My Wife Gives The Best Gifts

My daily life is full of the wonderful gifts my wife has given to me through the years. It is currently 10:08 PM and I am not tired. I feel well rested and refreshed. After I finish writing this I will likely head to bed. Not because I am tired but because I have nothing left to do and it is time to close the books on this day. The reason for this is because of the weighted blanket my wife gifted me this past Christmas.

I do have to admit that it wasn’t what I wanted or asked for or was expecting, but it was something that I had mentioned on countless occasions. Something I had said I wanted and I believe my wife came around to the idea of it because our bed ended up with two comforters on it at one point this autumn.

I am telling you I have been sleeping as soundly as I have ever slept and both feeling more awake at night and more ready to get up in the morning. That last part is a lie. I am never ready to get out of bed. Between the weighted blanket and the foam mattress I felt like a tub of goo the other day and it was wonderful. The last thing I wanted to do was get out of bed, but if I want to get up at 5:00 AM after going to sleep at 11:00 PM it is perfectly possibly.

This weighted blanket isn’t the only great gift my wife has given me and it is right in line with the other great gifts she gives. All practical and wonderful things. There is also the cast iron skillet that I use multiple times a week to make everything from stacked enchiladas to fried chicken to pan sear steak. That skillet is one of the most durable and versatile kitchen implements I possess. It can be used on the stove, grill, or in the oven. It can be used for baking bread as easily as it can be for frying an egg.

That isn’t the end of the list. There is the sweater she got me last Christmas. Now that one was no surprise. I practically demanded it as my gift last year, but it is amazing. The type she got is like getting a warm hug and sometimes I will nestle into it and pull it tight around me to feel that hug.

Through the years there have been many more. Off the top of my head I can’t think of anymore. My wife’s gifts fit into a nice category of practical, useful, and yet unexpected. Items that improve my daily life and are, or should be, a constant reminder that I am loved.
