Embracing Relaxation: Why Dedicated Days Matter

Yesterday was such an unusual day. I barely remember it. That is what is unusual. The morning was a bit of a trial. My daughter kept picking out shirts and claiming them dresses and then crying when I told her if she wanted to wear that to school she had to put on pants. They are such strange little people at times.

After getting the kids to school I went to pick up mail and found a couple pieces of mail I’m not sure I wanted as they’re bills. I brought those home and on the way a client called telling me they got a new place. I went to see that and they booked services for this weekend.

Then the rest of my day was mostly relaxing. That is what Thursdays are. They are my defacto day off. My marketing work days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Tuesday ends up being busy with errands and appointments so Thursday has become my day to sit and relax. And for some reason I don’t remember it.

It is a weird thing to not remember, and at the same time makes perfect sense. Why would you remember just sitting around doing a bunch of nothing? What would be the point in that memory? I know I am stressed about how long everything is taking to get sorted. At times I wish life was like a video game where everything is done with a press of a button. The thing about life that no one tells you is how much waiting around there is.

I am in a wait and see mode on several things. All out of my control, and when things are out of my control I get frustrated. That is what we’re supposed to do. Recognize that which we can’t control and stop worrying about it. That is easier said than done. The worrying isn’t the real problem. The problem comes when we try and take control of things we can’t control.

That is why having a dedicated day of relaxation is important. It helps us reduce the stress, refocus, and put our energy and efforts in the right direction.
