A Different Vibe

Last night we went to a Christmas party. The crowd was different than the one I have become accustomed to. It is a crowd we’ve been around for years and years at this point, but not one I am around that often anymore.

Have I become used to the church and pre-school parent crowd? Is the other networking I do so full of different types of people? Or maybe it was the familiarity of the crowd. I can’t say, but it was a completely different vibe than I have become accustomed to.

I might have acclimated to these other crowds or it is that I am not around the one we were around last night that often. There is a level of seriousness that was missing and that is something people form over time. It was a fun and festive atmosphere.

Having fun and letting go for an evening is a good way to spend your time. It was a bit of whiplash going from a more serious crowd to ones that think a butt pillow is a non-gag gift for a white elephant. That or someone didn’t get the memo.

It also could be that I felt a weird vibe because I was the one that opened the butt pillow. It felt like a nice soft blanket, and while we have a number of those already no one can turn down a nice soft blanket. It, was, however, a butt pillow.

If it hadn’t have been stolen from me it was going straight in the trash. I wasn’t going to have a butt pillow on our couch or in our bed. I don’t know what I would have done with a butt pillow. I know exactly why a butt pillow exists, and it is for moments like that, but then the moment ends and all that remains is a butt pillow. Once the gag is done the pillow loses all function. A butt pillow cannot be used as a normal pillow.

All I can say is last night was good, fun, and it was nice to see people I hadn’t seen in awhile. Perhaps I have grown too serious and need more time around fun loving crowds or I am changing in ways I cannot yet understand.
