The Wounds of Battle

Yesterday the children came home in rare form. Normally they come home from school a little tired and ready to relax. Yesterday they came home jazzed to the max. It was the first school day after Spring Break and their energy level was through the roof. It was very confusing and I didn’t understand it one bit.

I thought they would come home more tired than usual after having the entire last week off, but nope. They had energy and energy to spare and even more energy on top of that. At one point in time I decided to distract them by offering to fight them upstairs. I ended up having to take on three wild children that were jumping off the bed’s headboard, footboard, and posts at me. It was an intense battle that they narrowly won as daddy simply cannot defeat the powers of three wild children.

I woke up this morning feeling my wounds. My thumb feels like I damaged something in it, I have scrapes all over my other hand, and every muscle in my body feels sore and tired, and I am expected to keep up with these children for the rest of my life or at least until they move out of the house.

After that they fought through bedtime and bath time and played well into the night. I went upstairs to go to bed and found a line of Hot Wheel cars stretching through the bathroom and down the hallway. I am glad they are getting along with each other but it would be nice if they put their toys away.

I don’t know what today will hold. These kids are impossible to tire out. I really thought they were going to come home ready to crash, but they had energy on top of energy and somewhere found even more energy. I am wearing the wounds of war, and I am certain today will bring no end to it. They are tireless and merciless advisories who have yet to taste defeat.

They do want to go see the new Mario movie at some point and today might be as good as any to get them out to it. Again that might be better for tomorrow night. With how the week flows it is either tonight or tomorrow. I can always ask them and see what they want to do, and check the times for the movie. That way they won’t be able to beat me up at least.
