Going In the Wrong Direction

Remember when big events got bigger every year? That was the way it was supposed to be. An event was put on and the next year it grew and got bigger and better. Now it feels like events are getting smaller.

Yesterday we took the kids up to Busch Gardens during the food and wine festival. It is a newer event at Busch Gardens but like Hallowscream and Christmas Town it feels like it is getting smaller.

It started with a few countries in its first year and then more and more and more were added, but then they started rotating in and out different countries to where this time it felt like more were out than in.

I can’t explain it but it feels like Sea World’s main focus at Busch Gardens is to cut expenses and raise parking prices. That is their entire method to making money. Cut expenses and make parking ridiculously expensive.

I am not going to go on a rant about the good old days when the Busch family still owned the park or any of that, but it is something I noticed. Corporate America is focused on only one side of the ledger. Instead of offering better products and experiences they are offering smaller and more cost efficient products and experiences.

I was thinking about all this this morning when I sat down to write this and my wife told me we had a $400 doctor bill for one of the kids. It was $500 but insurance took care of $100 of it. I’m glad that little ol’ us could help out the poor unfortunate insurance company by covering the majority of the bill. Isn’t the reason we have insurance so that they cover most of the bill? I think I’m confused by who is helping whom out here.

Perhaps the pendulum will swing back at some point, but knowing Corporate America it will also drop a couple inches when it does.
