Yesterday afternoon signaled a new season of chaos. Exactly at the wrong time I might add. I already have so much on my plate and now one more thing is being added, and it is not my favorite thing either. I have to hire again. We have one staff member that has been with us for awhile and is our highest earning staff member winding down due to health issues and the one we were hoping would take most of her visits quit suddenly, because of not enough work.
This happens a lot and I now believe it is human nature. People are told that a thing will work. They are shown the projections, the numbers, all the future details, and then when it takes hard work and time they quit. This is what is happening with the SEO, the employee that left suddenly, and my sister looking from the outside in at Campbell Drive Properties.
The verge of the breakout is the hardest place to be because it is when success feels like failure. It is the moment where you did all the work and want to reap the reward, but nothing is there. There is no reward because the work takes time to settle. To set up. It has to compound and then once it does it is off to the races, but you’ve got to get there first.
Another example. I was talking to a personal trainer friend of mine and he asked if I knew why so many people give up weight loss in the first couple weeks. His answer was that people are prone to focus on lacking indicators. Weight loss is a lacking indicator of a new workout and nutrition routine. In fact, a lot of people gain weight in those first two weeks because our bodies put on muscle before they lose fat.
People don’t want to here that is just how it works. People want results and don’t understand processes, but process is more important than results. Some people still look at a baseball player that goes deep in counts and drives the ball to all parts of the field as failing when they run into a spat of bad luck and are hitting line drives right at fielders and the hitter hitting seeing eye singles and bloopers as successful. The former process will breakout and lead to greater results even if the present results are lacking while the latter, luck dependent, process will eventually break.
If the process is correct and the results aren’t there the missing ingredient is most often time, and that is something a lot of people are unwilling to give.
