Every now and then I will end up sending a text to a friend that reads, “It looks like I forgot it was international drive like a dumbass day.” Yesterday the day got off the road and I was dealing with these types of people all the live long day.
The more interesting one might be the seller’s agent at a property we are trying to buy. It has several great investment features. First it is underpriced for the neighborhood by about $20K-$40K, it already has renters, the home is well maintained, and the tenants are people that like nice things and take care of them. All of this is a major bonus.
We still offered a little below ask because let’s just try. Yesterday they told us they would like to sign the contract but needed to find out if the proceeds would clear the financial lien on the property and the seller didn’t know the principle of the loan. That confuses me because while I don’t know my remaining principle balance off the top of my head I know where to find it and could tell you in 15 seconds. I was also a little confused because when a realtor gets a contract offer they have three choices; accept, reject, or counter. If the money isn’t enough counter it. I told my realtor to tell the seller agent that directly, and now I am a little worried they might counter over ask which would be even crazier.
The other issue with people happened around the same time. I got a call from an unknown number of someone claiming to be from the car dealership where I bought our cars. They said we owed them $1,000 because when we refinanced our home and paid off our car loans both they and Truist wrote us a check for the same amount. I told them I had no records of that and if they made a mistake they should deal with it.
I did end up looking through my deposits and found no duplicate checks from the car dealership and Truist. I am not sure if it is a scam or if it was someone from the dealership. It didn’t feel like a scam because they wanted money and not Apple gift cards, but I can’t go giving everyone that calls me asking for $1,000, $1,000. That isn’t a good way to stay in the black.
