Accidentally Popular

Something that is starting to happen to people that use AI is they are started to talk and write like it. I find myself doing it at times. I will sometimes catch myself saying things like what people don’t think about and I try and recall if I would have said that a year or two ago. AI learned from us, but I am not sure how much of it was me.

One of the other side effects is it has changed how people search. I used to search for the exact thing I wanted. Single words or small phrases. AI has us asking questions in the search bar, and because of this I have started making my blog post titles question based. One of those questions was, “Why Does My Dog Ignore Me After Vacation?”

At first I was excited when I saw the post was taking off. This has to be good I thought, but then I noticed when I filtered the country in search console to the US a couple clicks disappeared. I looked into it further and there is a dramatic difference in how that page shows up in the US vs internationally. Then I drilled down further and noticed that most of the clicks are coming from the UK.

Dogs ignoring their owners after vacation is a major issue in the UK. The US on the other hand doesn’t seem to have that issue. What was once excitement is now a little bit of frustration because now I want to find what is the question in the Hampton Roads region of the United States. I have found the obvious answers but those are going to come with a lot of competition. The real question is what is the question people are asking that no one is yet answering.

That doesn’t mean I should ignore the popular questions. I should focus on them and get blog posts out there for them, but I shouldn’t stop thinking about this. Scout Facebook, Nextdoor, and Reddit. Figure out what real people with real pets are asking and be the person that answers those questions, because more traffic is great, but the right traffic is better.

I feel like this is close. Very close. To a big breakthrough and I just have to find the right question, because we all know the answer is 42.
