It is time once again for our yearly trip up to Gettysburg in which we see less and less of Gettysburg each year. This year comes at a less stressful and yet more stressful time than last year. It is a bit of an unwinding (pun intended) in the market and it is hitting my account hard.
The stock market is a wonderful thing. There is no other way that a poor shmuck like me could own a small piece of a trillion dollar company. It is also a place where I am at the whims of people that believe down is up, left is right, and inside is outside. This week has been nothing but good news for American businesses but the market continues to fall. That could be because the president went on national TV last night to announce how much of a sore loser he is and continues to throw a temper tantrum in the Middle East because Obama made a better deal with Iran than he can.
This is what happens when 50% of the country starts to believe jealousy is wealth and arrogance is strength. There has never been a weaker or more worthless human being than Donald J. Trump. What kind of baby man goes on TV to tell everyone he is a little bitch.
Anyway this is a gratitude journal. So let’s measure life backwards this morning. I might have torched an investment account with a plan that remains a great idea and could very well still workout. Nothing has actually not gone according to plan yet, but I did like seeing that I was up 46% YTD instead of down whatever the neon red numbers say now.
I do not like not being in control. That isn’t measuring backwards. It is a statement of fact. We are about to head on vacation and it will be a good time. Time to relax and not worry about all the things life wants me to worry about. We will go to Hershey Park and I won’t have to worry about the business that is up 30% or the other business that will soon have all properties rented and will see it’s revenue rise by more than 100% in a year.
Things are not going poorly. There is one part of life that is exploding before my eyes, but drawdowns create opportunities. I just have to make the move to take advantage of it. Be bold, be daring, and stop worrying about forces outside your control.
