The Right Tool For the Job

Today I was sitting here in front of the computer scrolling on my phone. I was thinking of looking up information on the MLB trade deadline and then I realized I am sitting at a computer. Some tasks are easier to do on a phone and other’s on a computer. Yet I opt for the phone more often than not.

I don’t know why that is. It is a strange pattern of behavior that I understand is common among people. Sitting in front of a better tool and then using a worse one. That feels like how life goes. We retreat to comfort and too often we find the phone to be an object of comfort.

At times I miss how social media used to be more static. I have been thinking about using my Medium page more often. Attempting to actually make money with writing. I have a few ideas about it, and it plays into my strength. The ways I got attention as a baseball blogger was arguing against common perceptions. That is why when I see a video or something I’d like to argue against I want to watch it, but turning away from the platform for a second now and the video is gone. The feed refreshed.

I wanted to start a YouTube channel for the same task and I think I need to simply choose a night and record. Instead of sitting around waiting for the perfect opportunity just make the schedule. I don’t know what day that would be though. Monday fits best in the current weekly schedule but it is also a day I have set aside for me. Tuesday could be a good day once school starts back up, but right now with summer winding down there isn’t a great day for it.

That leaves us with the original thought. The right tool for the job. Starting a more defined blogging adventure gets the thoughts out there and creates scripts for when I do have the time for a YouTube channel. It is weird to see these influencers that do nothing but record videos sitting in their car and yet what stops me is waiting for a moment when I can have a little bit of quiet in a house filled with noise. Like videos can’t be edited.

I think the task this morning will be to find a video I disagree with, watch it, and write my response. That is what I would like to do. Offer advise that goes beyond the gurus.
