You Don’t Get to Choose Your Sandwhich

Immediately before writing this I saw a video of Aaron Rodgers talking politics. The entire thing was bad and the fact he is stepping back from his convictions might be the worst. Where I picked up the video he was complaining about Obama and the ACA with the main complaint that rich people have to pay more in taxes which I don’t know if that is true. Then he started complaining about Trump and how he hasn’t kept any of his promises and the world just keeps getting worse.

I am not sure if Aaron Rodgers world is quite as bad as the single mother working a minimum wage job that can’t even cover childcare, gas, and groceries anymore, but I digress. The complaint was silly for a lot of reasons but the main one is Aaron Rodgers is largely complaining about Aaron Rodgers.

It also brought back a memory. His main complaint about the ACA is that it didn’t benefit him. It created an extra tax for Aaron Rodgers. I remember one of my political science professors talking about teaching South African’s democracy and he did so with sandwiches. Instead of taking orders or letting people choose everyone voted. It was either PBJ or ham and cheese. What happened was nearly everyone that voted for ham and cheese was upset when they ended up with PBJ for lunch.

Now the obvious implication that PBJ would actually kill a portion of the population is a little too on the noise for this Aaron Rodgers discussion but both the sandwich anecdote and Aaron Rodgers complaints about politics show a fundamental lack of understanding of democracy. Not everyone gets to choose their sandwich and not every sandwich benefits everyone. We should also mention the religious implications of a ham and cheese too. This experiment was perfectly designed to explain American politics.

Turkey and tomato is likely the third party candidate that everyone likes but no one will vote for because they aren’t part of a major party. Either way it is time to wrap this up and I don’t know if I have a point other than it is good to see one more supporter of this current regime come to their senses, but I don’t know that they did. A lot of the times I have seen these videos end with but imagine how much worse it would be if…
