I decided to bring this back over here because the desktop app of Chat GPT isn’t the best place to write this. It was good on day one when it could just read what was in my browser but then it lost that ability on day two, and this is such a nice wide screen over here. The best thing for a chat bot to be would be like Clippy. Just floating in the corner until needed.
That gets me thinking here. Google is getting close to releasing Gemini 4 and Google has a massive homefield advantage when it comes to AI. Meta just had a big event with new Meta glasses and Muse and all of that but think about what Google can do.
They are already using Google maps for Waymo and beat Tesla’s robotaxi to market. Tesla has been talking about self driving cars for how long and a search engine beat them to market. It is kind of funny but it is Google maps that makes it possible.
Think about what Google knows about you. Or don’t. It can be a little frightening. Then think about an AI that knows you, and knows you possibly better than you know yourself. Google maps has our daily habits and routines recorded for over a decade at this point. Google sends me photos every now and then. It sent me photos from 2012 last night and I have to say I had forgotten how great of a year that was.
Google knows where we go, what we search for, the music we like, what we watch on YouTube, and possibly so much more. It knows a lot about us. Way more than some people like. If you’ve ever been in the backend of Google ads you know how much you can narrow an audience down. Google knows that type of pets we have, and the AI is going to take all this knowledge and make this a very interesting world.
Imagine that you have a Google assistant with you. In your ear that you can talk to. An assistant that truly knows you and can help you more than you can even imagine. That is the good case. The bad cases are many. Advertisers and corporations paying for access to those AI assistants so they can try and sell us a new can opener or the assistant itself suddenly becoming more than AI and we’re trying to use it to make money to buy tokens so we don’t lose access to it.
The future is both bright and dark, and it’s entirely unknown if we’re headed toward the morning or the night.
