Today is the 303rd day of the year and I have just finished my 95th book of the year. That puts me on pace to finish 114 books this year and means I am finishing a book on average once every three days.
I don’t know why I care about any of this. Listening to audio books a quarter into the year has made a huge difference. I would be nowhere close to my current pace if it weren’t for the audio books. It would be interesting to go back and see when I started listening to audio books and see what my pace has been since that point.
In fact I think I will do that now. I’m going to let the timer run while doing so which means we’re getting a shorter entry tonight. I started listening to audio books on April 26, the 116th day of the year. Since that date I have read or listened to 66 books. If I were to continue that pace for a full calendar year I would read 128 books. An increase of 14 over my current pace. If I were to read at this pace for the 62 days left in the year I would read 21 more books or 116 for the year.
My book count for the last three months is 38 books in 92 days which translates to a pace of 150 books in a year. If I maintain that pace from now till the end of the year I will read 25 more books for a total of 120 books.
With Christmas and Thanksgiving and everything coming up that seems outside the realm of possibility. I am not going to try and maintain any type of pace. I want to reach the 104 number of two books a week, but after that let the chips fall where they may.
Next year though is a whole new ballgame.
