Starting The Year Off Right

It has been awhile since I have written anything. Too long. It isn’t because I didn’t want to or had nothing to write about. It was because I have been too busy. Tomorrow I get to sleep in to 5:30 and that describes exactly how busy I have been.

With a new year comes new journeys. As 2020 started I set myself a task list and one some parts of it I failed miserably. That list was to write 500 words of prose or one poem a day, to read 50 pages a day, and to do 100 push-ups, squats, and sit-ups in a day. Of those tasks I read 50 pages a day.

When 2020 ended I felt no need to add any extra challenges to 2021 so made no resolutions or goals, and set no tasks. This year is different. First, my resolution is to dress better. I keep wearing ratty old t-shirts and feeling like a bum because I look like a bum. I need to get nicer shirts and to wear them. I am hoping that by dressing a little better I will start feeling a bit more confident when dealing with the public.

Now for the task list. I am lowering the average pages to 30 as 50 is a hard number of pages to transfer from book to book. A thick hardcover book with small print and large pages can make 50 pages in a day feel like a true challenge whereas with a mass market paperback in can be done before you know it, and I need more time for other things.

While I am lowering the number of pages I am adding in an hour of listening to an audio book, podcast, or music. This won’t be hard to accomplish at all especially when it takes me one hour and 20 minutes to do 30 minutes of cardio at the gym which for my 2022 task I need to do at least three times a week.

Now for the push-ups. I am adding them back in but starting small. I did ten push-ups this morning. Tomorrow morning I will do 15 and if I can do those then the next day 20 until I can’t do the number at which point the rest of the push-ups will be owed before the end of day.

I am also planing on doing two adventures with the family during the month but this can be anything from hiking in a park to the zoo, aquarium, botanical gardens, playing in the backyard or something further afield like going to Williamsburg or the Outer Banks.

That is it for my 2022 resolutions and tasks. Oh, I forgot one. I’d like to write as often as possible. That is vague and can be easily twisted to mean anything but daily is too hard even though it is something I am going to try for. The year is off to a good start. My tasks for the day have been completed and it is time to call this day a success and end it with a peaceful night’s rest.
