One of the exciting parts about being a kid is going to birthday parties. It is always a good time and yesterday we had back to back birthday parties. I didn’t get to experience much of the first one as I put in a call to the HVAC company before leaving the house and they called to say they were on their way just as we were settling in at the first party.
That meant I had to run home and let the HVAC guy in. What he found was a clogged drain line. Which is a lot better than what I was already pricing in my head. I was well prepared for the worst case scenario and was wondering where I was going to get the $15K and what it was going to do to my new ideas.
It is important to not let dreams and hope get crushed and it does look like my bad luck was saving me from worse luck in this situation. It brought me the joy of having to pay $248 which was the best $248 I ever spent because I was well and good afraid that it was going to be much closer to $10K.
After having that taken care of I just sat for a bit. I wasn’t ready to head back to the party nor if I was even expected back. Then my wife sent a text asking if I was coming back, and then I went back. Everything was wrapping up when I got back and I escorted our children to the tree walk and spent a little time with them before it was time to head to the next party.
As we are terrible parents and have yet to teach our kids how to swim we had to get something a little more dignified for Windsor to wear in the pool. Of the children he has been the most brave in the water before and this was really no exception. It took him a bit to warm up, but once he did he was out in the deep end with his new life vest on and then he took it off and ventured back out. He never once sank like a stone and was always careful.
The biggest thing is we do need to get them in water more often and in ways that are more productive than the wave pool at Ocean Breeze or the literal ocean. The rec center memberships might be something to explore once more, and maybe actually doing swim lessons as some point.
