Every now and then I get the sudden feeling that I am falling in love with my wife all over again. It normally happens around our wedding anniversary or Valentine’s Day, but all of a sudden yesterday evening I started having that feeling of intense and new love. That I just wanted to be close to this person.
At first I blamed it on the book I just finished that asked the reader to ask a question whenever they are feeling upset with their partner to imagine their life without them, and I found that impossible. I cannot imagine a life without Lara in it.
Then I looked at the calendar and had a sudden realization. We are getting close to 20 years of being together. Our first date was August 13, 2006. We met at a town center in Gaithersburg, Md and saw Talladega Nights in the movie theater. It was a good time, and there have been a lot of even better times since.
Love is a strange emotion. It is both hard to describe and to define. I fell asleep last night wanting to be curled up against my person and woke up wanting to hold them. Writing this I am looking forward to when I get to do that again, but also looking forward to trying to spend time with our kids today.
We are a family that likes to do their own thing. We have trouble simply spending time together. The boys want to watch YouTube videos of other people playing Minecraft all day and Abigail does whatever it is she does during the day. Unless we get out of the house we’re all sitting off somewhere doing our own thing.
Which means we should go to the water park today. I need to try and get work done this morning before we had to Vacation Bible School so that everything gets done this week, but we should try and spend a chunk of the afternoon together and the waterpark is as good a place as any.
