This morning I may have just done the easiest thing I have ever done when it comes to dealing with both the government and health insurance. It still might not have solved the problem because Sentara are a bunch of crooks and idiots. I am not sure if the latter is true. They might just be evil or greedy. One way or another this morning was easy and solved the problem for now.
The problem is my one son keeps getting a letter in the mail that tells him he is not eligible for our health insurance plan as he is on Medicare. He is seven. This is impossible, and as it is limited to just one of the boys it has nothing to do with the Medicade they received when they were in the NICU.
The other bad part of Sentara is that they are both an insurance provided and medical provider in this area and are starting to require people with Sentara insurance to use Sentara medical facilities. It is frustrating but almost nowhere here takes Blue Cross Blue Shield and there is no Kaiser even if it is offered as an option.
So this morning I went to the Virginia Health Place Insurance Market and changed my plan, and guess what. We will now save money. Lower premium, lower deductible, lower copay, lower prescription cost, and lower maximum out of pocket. Everything is lower.
My guess is it is because of Spanberger somehow. I don’t know how. I can’t explain it, but something clearly changed. Our tax credits were way higher than last year despite the fact our 2025 tax return showed more income than 2024. Again don’t ask me for the mechanics of this. I just plan on benefiting. I am always happy to save money.
The funny thing is I wouldn’t have looked if it wasn’t for the issue with the one boy. Because of an error or something in Sentara’s system that told them a seven year old is on Medicare I decided to get new insurance than simply letting it roll over. I have no idea if this solves the issue for 2028 but for 2027 we are good, and maybe before then Sentara will be hit with a class action lawsuit that will break up the insurance and medical companies, again.
