I am unsure if the question is what makes Stable Hands different or me different, but my answer was willingness to change. The idea that life is an experiment and that we should welcome being wrong and being open to change, and to quickly evolve.
I know that these qualities frustrate my wife and business partner. That we write down an SOP and 20 minutes later it is incorrect because that is no longer how we do things. This idea of what is written is permanent and sacred is a widely criticized part of Western culture.
It might be Leslie Marmon Silko or someone else that ended a story talking about how stories repeat. That life isn’t something meant to be written down and made permanent. That we should be open to changing and adapting, and the quicker we do it often the better.
There is the newer more entrepreneurial idea of fail fast. That slow failure can be very damaging but that fast failure can teach a lesson. We do, however, need a platform from which to fail. Which brings me to another thought. The happiness of the land of the midnight sun and the countries around it.
America has been increasingly open to Democratic Socialism in the recent years, and it might be getting close to the tipping point of becoming widely accepting. People on the right either latch onto the word Socialism to fool dumb people that it is a dictatorship or they conflate Democratic Socialism with dictatorships. My belief is people in the land of the midnight sun have no right to be as happy as they are.
I am not even sure if some of there practices aren’t more capitalist than ours. Compare social security to the Swedish retirement system. Image if instead of Social Security Americans could invest that money that is automatically taken out of our accounts into something like SPY, VOO, or dozens of other index or mutual funds. I don’t understand how that system is more socialist than ours.
Then there is the idea of social safety nets. What would you do if failure meant ending up back where you started instead of dying on the street? Again, how is a system that creates more capital and ownership of capital socialist and not capitalist? I don’t get it myself, and if we did it image how happy we’d be if the people in the land of the midnight sun are happy with the system.
