Every time I visit my friend in Northern Virginia I want to pull the cord on my life in Virginia Beach and go back to Northern Virginia. Yesterday was the clearest example of why. Yesterday was the annual Extra Life video game event and it has morphed and changed over the years. When we originally started we were all younger and trying to play video games for 24 hours straight was far more possible. Now it isn’t a remote possibility. I also happen to live three hours away now.
This was the first time I believe I have been able to make it up in back to back years and I just so happened to be at this friend’s house not that long ago for his birthday, and while that was fun this was different. It was more of a family affair and I missed having mine with me. I really need to remember for next year that we’re all invited and we should all go. It would be more fun that way.
However seeing the other families come and go throughout the day made me miss having that. I don’t know if it is us, the groups we hang out in, or the culture of Virginia Beach but we haven’t found other middle-aged couples with kids that are interested in playing video games, and the games that were played weren’t anything the kids couldn’t see or join in with.
The main console we ended up using was The Switch 2 and we played Resort Spa, Mario Kart, and Mario Tennis, and I might end up getting the two of those I don’t have. I had a lot of fun doing the boxing on Resort Spa and Mario Tennis was surprisingly fun and a game the entire family could play together.
What really drove this all home for me was the $3.65 gas at Sheetz in Woodbridge vs the $4.05 gas at the 7-11 in Virginia Beach. Gas is never cheaper in Northern Virginia than Virginia Beach, and then there are the home prices in the area where my friend lives, Lake Ridge. We could sell our home here, move, and pocket a cool chunk of change all before figuring out what happens with our business.
That is one solution or maybe we send a random invite to all the families we know for a Mario Tennis tournament and see who shows up.
