The Children Will Not Sleep

Daylight’s Savings Time is the worst creation humanity has ever dreamed of. Last week everything was good. Life was humming along without much worry. We had settled into a nice routine. Then the clocks had to be changed and despite being called Daylight’s Savings Time no daylight was saved. Case in point today was the vernal equinox. That means there was 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. It doesn’t matter if the sun rose at 6:30 or 7:30. There would still be 12 hours of day and 12 hours on night.

Instead what we have is a cluster of hell and pain. The children will not go to sleep. At least one of them has been awake at 9:30 every night since the clocks changed and then we aren’t getting up in the morning at 4:30 or 5:00. We are losing time on both ends of the equation.

I liked the routine we were on. I felt like I had a good hour or two of time after the kids went to bed and then an hour or so in the morning of peace before they rose. Now by the time they are all asleep it is time for us to go to sleep and then the morning comes way too fast and it is time to load them into the van and take them off to school or wherever they need to go.

This idea that setting the clocks different is somehow changing time or saving daylight is absurd. I don’t know who came up with this concept, but whoever they are displayed the full arrogance of man. Look at me I saved daylight by setting my clock and hour forward. That’s like me saying I can make myself taller by starting with a foot already added on. Now I’m 6’6″. Just like there is now an extra hour in the day.

This is no extra hour. It is highway robbery. All my time has been stolen from me and sacrificed to a god I never asked to worship. Perhaps I’m just going to set my clock back to where it should be and live my life on standard time. Everything was good then. The children went to sleep at a decent hour and we had time to settle into our day in the morning.

The rest of the world can keep their Daylight’s Savings. I have no use for it.
