There is a brand of insanity on YouTube that will never not drive me nuts and combine that with how my daughter consumes media and I am double looney. That was the situation yesterday as she was watching one of the dumb Mr. Beast rip-off shows where people ordered every Bluey Happy Meal to make their dog feel better.
Now these are also the types of videos that make me wonder why I haven’t just started my own YouTube channel. I might only be adding to the garbage but it is hard to get worse than a lot of what is out there. It is all so awful.
My daughter wasn’t satisfied with making it halfway through the episode and watching it until the end. No, anytime anyone made any type of noise she needed it restarted. When my friend started texting me about the Braves v. Phillies game enough was enough. I could have been watching baseball instead of listening to these chuckleheads.
It is very easy to pick a fight with a five year old but impossible to win. She would not give up the remote rendering my options to ripping it out of her hand or figuring out another way. She has also started to want to see what happens at the end of the magic five count and simply counting down doesn’t work anymore. So, I counted down, tickled her, and grabbed the remote. That was the solution.
The bad news is the baseball game was over by the time I got the TV under my control but at least I didn’t have to listen to that insane community theater anymore. I don’t even know what to call these YouTube shows, and the amount of people getting licensing deals and Target toy collections is insane, but it really is 15 minutes of fame. All the Blippi toys have already given way to Preston Plays and Ryan has done lost his world.
