The Big East

I’m not superstitious, I just won’t allow the same thing to happen twice. The Tech/Pitt rivalry dates back to the old Big East and Tech has been blowing games against them for as long as I can remember. I told someone the other day I tried to look up the Tech/Pitt game that they blew because of a late hit out of bounds and found it had happened three times.

With the scene set that Tech enjoys blowing games against Pitt let’s fast forward to last night. Tech jumped out early to a 14 nothing lead and the offense looked unstoppable. Then my daughter came in the room and started acting a fool. My wife would say she was acting like a sleepy five year old but her actions caused the first half to end with Pitt outscoring Tech 21 to 10 and Tech heading to the half with the smallest of leads.

Then the second half began and the game was just about over. Pitt took the lead on the first possession of the half and then got a strip sack on the Tech QB. It was at this point that I gave up on the game. As I said Tech loves blowing games against Pitt and this was no different.

I hate to ban my daughter from watching sports with me but it has to happen, and it is not because I believe it has any impact on the outcome but we simply cannot take that chance. She has to go. This was an important game and the Tech players could feel the bad mojo. My annoyance with my daughters antics travelled from Virginia Beach to Blacksburg and caused the abomination we witnessed on the field.

When we really get down to it sports has ruined my life. That is the nature of being a DC sports fan. Nothing is fun, everything is terrible, and we just keep doing it again. It is really bad when you find yourself looking forward to the Wizards season because everyone else has blown it already.
