Fascination With the Future

I am fascinated by the future. I like to know where we are headed and we are at one of the most interesting times in history where we don’t know. I watched a documentary last night called The Thinking Game and it gave me several interesting insights.

The first and most important is that we are not as early as people think in this AI buildout. I realized this early on in the documentary when they were talking about AlphaGo and an agentic AI beating the best Go player in the world in 2016. The interesting part of this is Go was once considered a game a computer couldn’t solve. AI beat a chess grand master in the 90’s and then almost 20 years later it won Go.

The rest of the documentary moved on to Starcraft and eventually unfolding proteins. Ironically the AI couldn’t yet beat the best Starcraft player in the world, but those games have a little more freedom than Chess or Go. It still played the best in the world and gave him a run for his money.

That is one of those excitement and fear moments, because if it can play Starcraft as good as any human what else can it do with a computer and what is our purpose after it can do it? Those are interesting questions and I see the fear a little more than the hope because I do not think the current billionaire class is one that likes to share, and people simply won’t survive if AI does everything for us.

This was all stuff that happened years ago at this point and the advancement in publicly available models in 2026 has been insane. If we trace back to the beginning of 2026 and look at the difference between ChatGPT 4.0 and 6.0 it is insane, and that is in less than a year. Each new release is coming faster and faster too.

Imagine by this time next year I am just the supervisor of my business and I can then ask the AI to open a new similar business our systems and skills are geared for and it does it. Constructs the websites, gets the licenses, creates the social media, sets up the software, and it is off to the races. A human at the top directing a supervisor AI that directs a team of specialized agents. Sounds simple, but not that easy. Maybe worth testing.
