Let it Settle

I spent so much time on shaky ground that typing out the word shaky has me confused by the English language. I wasn’t going to write that but that word is giving me trouble. It should have an e. Now back to our regularly scheduled programing. I have spent so much time on shaky ground that I forgot what it was like to be settled.

I don’t think the tremors are over and I am definitely a person that likes to cause them but I think things are about to hit a nice stable period. I say that and so much is out of my control. Stability would be a nice change of pace.

A couple books I have read recently have been in agreement that happiness is an intrinsic value and that we can increase our happiness by measuring life backwards. Look back and see how far we’ve come instead of what is left ahead.

When I think about where I started in 2025 when I was handed control of the family finances. Control but not authority. The authority still laid with my mother and we won’t get into the complications of all that for someone of her age and condition but it increases the responsibility. Either way back to measuring backwards.

If we look at where we started with assets, liabilities, and cash flow we faced a danger. Death is expensive and so is growing old. We faced both challenges at once. Add to the mix some family dynamics and you have a recipe for disaster, and yet there hasn’t been. I have maintained the equity value of the properties, increased the value of other investments, and dramatically increased cash flow. We are headed in the right direction.

Letting things settle could bring us even closer to that right direction. Things could be very nice soon and next Spring could even bring some surprises if things settle like I think they should. We will see. We will see. But for now we can look back and see all the obstacles we may not have noticed when traversing them and understand we are on the other side of great danger.
